Skaters glided gracefully across the frozen surface of the world’s deepest lake, Lake Baikal, as seen in footage captured earlier this month.
Lake Baikal’s thick layer of ice is believed to be able to sustain even a 15-tonne car moving across it. In winter, the frozen Baikal is near transparent, allowing daring visitors to see through the trapped bubbles and all the way to the bottom of the lake.
The world’s largest freshwater lake is usually covered with ice for around five months of the year after it freezes in mid-winter.
