A Robotic Fish Swims in the Ocean

Wow. The movements are so realistic. They just need to work on the video's stabilization...

MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) has unveiled SoFi, a soft robotic fish that can swim in the ocean using realistic movements, enabling it to get up close and personal with real sea life. SoFi was tested in the Rainbow Reef, where it was able to swim at depths down to 50ft, taking on ocean currents while capturing videos and photos using a built-in camera.

Scuba diver Hiroyuki Arakawa and Yoriko are the unlikeliest of friends. While they both share a love for the sea, Yoriko's gills and tail make her a little more aquatically inclined. Nearly every day for the past 25 years, Arakawa has been diving into the waters of Hasama Underwater Park in Tateyama, Japan, to visit Yoriko—an Asian sheepshead wrasse. One day, Arakawa found her looking exhausted and carrying an injury. So he did what any friend would do: he took care of Yoriko, feeding her crabs and nursing her back to health. Their decades-long friendship is proof there's no greater bond than the one between man and fish.

This wonderful little fish actually plays with this man. He trusts him enough to even be held and thrown. The fish really seems to be enjoying it. I believe the fish is a Red Devil Cichlid.

This video was taken in November 2016 on the Skykomish Valley Road near Seattle, WA. Due to high rainfall, the river had burst its banks and was flooding over fields and roads. Migrating salmon - returning from a life in the ocean - seek the lower flow streams to spawn and die. These are following the stream wherever it goes - using great effort to overcome obstacles including roads.
